Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, to mark the debut trading session of Banque du Caire (BDC) on the main market of the Egyptian Exchange within the stocks of the banking sector.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Islam Azzam, Executive Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), Dr. Hashem El-Sayed, Assistant to the Prime Minister and Chief Executive at the Cabinet’s Central Unit for Monitoring and Regulating State-Owned Companies, Mr. Omar Radwan, the Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), Mr. Mohamed El-Etreby, Chief Executive Officer of the National Bank of Egypt, Mr. Hisham Okasha, Chief Executive Officer of Banque Misr, and Mr. Hussein Abaza, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Banque du Caire, alongside a distinguished group of senior officials and leaders from the banking and capital market sectors.

In his remarks during the ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly expressed his pleasure for attending the inaugural trading session of “Banque du Caire” shares on the Egyptian Exchange. He described the event as a turning point in the trajectory of economic reform, marking the largest initial public offering (IPO) in the history of the Egyptian capital market. Dr. Madbouly highlighted that this achievement crowns the vision of the Egyptian state and its State Ownership Policy Paper, aimed at enhancing private sector participation and broadening the ownership base for both individual citizens and institutional investors.

In this regard, Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the CBE, emphasized that the remarkable interest from major international institutional investors such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), as well as retail investors, manifest the success of Banque du Caire’s listing on EGX, and serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of the Egyptian banking sector as well as its robust financial indicators. He added that this success also reflects deep confidence in the Egyptian economy and the effectiveness of the economic reforms implemented by the state, further enhancing Egypt’s position as an attractive destination for international investments.

In the same context, Mr. Omar Radwan, Executive Chairman of EGX, stated that “Our celebration today at this historic headquarters to mark the start of trading in BDC shares signals a new and defining phase in the journey of the capital market. Together, we record the completion of the largest listing in the history of the EGX, with a total value exceeding EGP 36.37 billion. Undoubtedly, this benchmark extends beyond the listing of a reputable banking institution established in 1952; it serves as a tangible proof and a clear demonstration of confidence in the resilience of the Egyptian economy, the attractiveness of its investment climate, and the market’s capacity to absorb and cover billion-dollar offerings of strategic significance”.

Mr. Radwan further emphasized that the offering’s record demand confirms this institutional and public confidence in the national economy. The public offering was oversubscribed 27 times, with purchase orders exceeding 9.28 billion shares, alongside broad institutional and international demand for the private offering. He noted that the IPO successfully attracted more than half a billion dollars transferred from abroad.

The Executive Chairman of the EGX added that this historic success will further advance institutional development plans and deepen liquidity in the Egyptian Exchange, in line with the objectives of comprehensive economic growth. He also stated, “We will continue working to introduce innovative financial instruments and mechanisms to attract new segments of retail and institutional investors, as well as regional and international investment funds, and to position the EGX as a leading financial hub capable of keeping pace with ongoing developments while providing sustainable financing for major national institutions.”

BDC’s offering represents a milestone in the history of the Egyptian stock market as the largest IPO, with the offering of 6,862,500,000 shares, representing 45% of the bank’s total 15,250,000,000 shares, and a total offering value of EGP 36,371,250,000. This translates to a market capitalization of approximately EGP 80,825,000,000, while the bank’s issued capital stands at EGP 30,500,000,000.
