The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) revealed that the net foreign assets (NFAs) of the Egyptian banking sector rose to $31.2 billion in August 2026, marking the highest level recorded since January 2020.
According to CBE data, the increase was driven by higher net foreign assets held by both banks and the Central Bank of Egypt.
Net foreign assets held by commercial banks rose to $12.4 billion in August 2026, while the CBE’s net foreign assets reached $18.8 billion during the same month.
The banking sector’s total net foreign assets therefore stood at $31.2 billion at the end of August 2026, reflecting the combined position of the banking sector and the Central Bank of Egypt in foreign-currency assets relative to foreign-currency liabilities.
